Home Welcome to MSCW

For more than six thousand years of recorded history, in fact for more than sixty thousand years of human life on Earth, women had their place; a place subordinate to men.  It was until thirty years old Mary  Wollstonecraft staked their claim in her book “A Vindication of the Rights of Women” in 1972 AD that women like any other human being should have rights of their own. Danial Defoe, who wrote "Robinson Crusoe", came very near to it and it is good to remember that enlightened person he was. In Rousseau’s “Social Contract” he carefully excluded women and stated their business in the world and their education to make themselves pleasing to men.

Crime against Women has been dealt or punished since ancient days in Manipur.

In order to punish the perpetrators of crimes against women in any form, there existed in Manipur a court dealing especially with the crimes connected against females known as Patcha Pheida since 33 AD with Queen Laisna, wife of king Pakhangba. This court had jurisdiction over all cases of family disputes in which women were concerned-beating of wife, adultery and divorce. It could also try cases of kidnapping, rape, khainaba and Angang Chakthak. It could fix Nupi Mamal to be paid by the husband. This court came to an end in 1891 when British occupied Manipur.

Raising the courage, hope and rights of each women in our society!
